Job Summary: Manages the boiler operator caregivers and provides leadership, orientation, training, coaching and mentoring to assigned caregivers. Responsible for the manufacture and transmission of 270,000 pounds per hour of steam 170,000 pounds normal peak and 7,200 tons of chilled water. Oversees installation, inspections,

repairs, trouble shooting and daily maintenance of buildings, infrastructures, facility equipment and in the Central Utility Plant. Analyzes problems, determines work to be performed and establishes priorities based on workload and workforce available.

Job Responsibilities: Maintains knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory and administrative requirements relative to departmental operations and ensures departmental compliance. Is responsible for the safe and continuous operation of the Central Utility Plant, including Preventative Maintenance, Operation and testing in accordance with Ohio law and applicable codes and policies. Develops Preventative Maintenance needed for maintaining building systems and trade standards/specifications.

Determines work to be performed and establishes priorities based on workload and workforce available. Communicates and coordinates the planning/scheduling of departmental work activities and execution of daily operations within the Central Utility Plant. Establishes systems and processes to attract, develop, engage, and retain talented caregivers. Creates a work environment where people can realize their full potential in order to meet current and future clinical and business challenges. Through coaching and mentoring provides ongoing performance feedback to assigned caregivers. Accountable for staffing and capacity planning for the assigned shop/trade. Focuses and guides assigned caregivers in accomplishing work objectives holding high expectations for self and others. Develops and initiates training and operating procedures for the Central Utility Plant and ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols. Performs quality assurance reviews of work completed by assigned caregivers. Analyzes problems and coordinates work plans with Maintenance Control and other departments as appropriate. Accountable for the development and monitoring of, and compliance with, the departmental budget, including capital, operating and construction budgets. Manages current expenses in a responsible manner. Reviews inventory of equipment and materials and initiates purchase requisitions. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Completion of apprenticeship trade or vocational school or knowledge obtained through four years of on-the job training experience in the appropriate area of responsibility. Bachelors degree in business administration, engineering or related field preferred. High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure / Certification/Registration: Certified Plant Engineer preferred. Master license and other licenses required as appropriate for trade.

Membership in professional trade organization preferred.

Required Experience: Six years experience as a fully qualified trades-person or technician in respective area of responsibility i.e. electrical, plumbing. Prior experience in a large healthcare or industrial central plan operations strongly preferred. Three years of previous supervisory or managerial experience or demonstration of formal education in business management preferred. Ability to work with employees, interdepartmental teams, and organizational leadership across the enterprise to effectively complete goals. Exhibits the organizations mission and values and strives to achieve and sustain Cleveland Clinic Experience. Working knowledge of regulatory codes as applied in health institutions. Experience with MS Office, Computerized Maintenance Management System CMMS and programs associated for tracking with a CMMS system preferred.
